My daughter was born 6 week's prematurely and developed Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC). NEC is serious intestinal disease among premature babies. It happens when tissue in the small or large intestine is injured or inflamed and can lead to death of the intestinal tissue and, in some cases, a hole in the intestinal wall. She was terribly sick and couldn’t have anymore formula as she was needing to be on belly rest to help her intestines recover. This was extremely hard on me as I knew the best thing for her was my breast milk. So as any mama would, I pumped around the clock every 2-3 hours and managed to build up an incredible supply that assisted in her fight to become healthy. Since then she has developed a dairy allergy, so all of my supply, she can’t have right now and I don’t want it to go bad. My dairy free, soy free, gluten free breastmilk supply is much smaller and I need on hand right now as my supply ebbs and flows. I’m so grateful to have my breastmilk freeze dried so eventually we can reintroduce dairy when she is ready and can still utilize my large supply.
