I was very nervous when Liliana was born. Every time I told family or friends that I wanted to feed her breast milk instead of formula, I got laughed at and said they failed so it wouldn't work for me. I remember crying the first couple of weeks, because Liliana was constantly crying and hungry. I had people close to me to tell me to give up. I felt like a failure when we had to give her some formula one night so that we could both sleep. After that, I was determined that it wasn't the end. I started pumping after feedings to build up a stash and was able to save milk to freeze. Once I went back to work, I had to set up a pumping schedule. My coworkers were the most supportive. I couldn't have done any of this without the support of my wonderful partner. He was awake with me at every feeding, bottle fed her breast milk so I could sleep, and encouraged me every step of the way. There are still days that I feel I struggle with supply and working on a schedule, but I reassure myself that I’ve done it this long, and have a beautiful, happy daughter to show for it.
